Apple Streusel

Apple Streusel

Ingredients:

5 apples cored and thinly sliced {any apples you have on hand, I prefer gala or braeburn  apples- it retains its crunchy texture}
2 cups flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt {omit if using salted butter}
1 cup butter {equivalent to 2 sticks of butter}
1 egg beaten
1 tbsp. cinnamon

Directions:

Pastry crust- mix flour,  sugar, baking powder, salt, and egg, till texture resembles like a crumble. Press HALF of the mixture onto a pan, and bake at 350 for  15-20 mins.

Apple filling-  Mix 1/2 cup sugar {use less if apples are sweet}, 1/4 flour, 3 tsp. cinnamon, and toss peeled,cored and sliced apples. Pour apple filing onto cooked pastry crust and top remaining pastry crust.
Return to oven and bake at 350 degrees for another 25-35 minutes.

Glaze {optional} 1 cup powdered sugar, 3 tbsp. milk and 1 tsp. vanilla extract, mix and drizzle onto the apple streusel.

{I omit doing the glaze, and cut the sugar some more if the apples are sweet enough. I prefer without the glaze}.

Enjoy your Apple Streusel! This is always a keeper in my kitchen and always a hit during get together. Also, this is great recipe on hand if you have tons of apple and don't know what to do with it or changing up the constant Apple pie recipe. Enjoy!
